Vasari Timeline
This timeline shows all artists Giorgio Vasari honored with a biography in his "Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects" (1568).
The current position in the timeline is shown at the top left. You move along the timeline z-axis by scrolling. If you move the mouse over an artist thumbnail, the artist's name (birth - death) is displayed below the current position at the top left. A right or double click leads the artist's works of art and also to a link to the artist's wikipedia article. The touchscreen equivalent for hovering over is touch and for click the equivalent is to swipe (in any direction). The thumbnails along the timeline were taken from Wikidata, as were the artist's life data and brief description. The works of art were taken from the MET collection (1031) and the Rijksmuseum (190) via their APIs.
The visualization is still a beta version prototype with errors such as double entries, and important features such as artwork metadata and touchscreen optimization are missing. Work in progress. The code (and my email address) is available on GitHub: https://github.com/Anna-S0phia/Cultural_Data_Sculpting .
